wow... thanks for sharing ur night at dinner for parent who CI their kids. sorry u did not have chance to make a speech. it really makes me feel bad when i see deaf kids only speaking, no signing. signing allows us to express ourself freely, with speaking, we have to really think about what we say and it not easy. good vlog, thanks for sharing...

Does the Deaf guy who spoke have a name? What was the name of the organization who sponsored the dinner? What were you going to talk about?

Hi there!

When you were talking about a young girl who had a CI and was learning ASL, she signed "bird" that upset the person who told her not to sign.

That p**sed me off, too. Hearing people are praising hearing children to learn ASL, but they're criticizing and degrading deaf children who have CIs to learn ASL. Argh!! You're right about that - it's very important for deaf children to have unlimited access to their language!

yes, I repeat the thanks for your sharing what impressed you at that dinner. I am glad the parents there were open to meeting Deaf adults like yourself and others there. How nice if all parents have chance to do this ... not only once, but often! Thus, we need to push for an excellent Deaf mentorship program and training.
Like David Martin mentioned, it'd be good to know more about who planned that dinner.

Hi David & Ella -

Yes he has a name, his name is Joey Garth.
It was the parents of CI children that sponsered the dinner, they welcomed Deaf to come.
I was going to express my experiences and emphazised how important it is to have ASL, to have their child exposed to Deaf world/community, and like I said, explained my experiences with "forced oral" and late in signing.....nowadays we use ASL, etc.
Joey has also explained CI is not the answer, but since your child has a CI, PLEASE USE ASL do not take that away from your child.....
I wished to spread this out NOW to all parents there is another way (using ASL), not to use "ONE WAY" to CI your babies.
